Yesterday on the way home from work, I stopped at the store to pick up some diet coke (have I told you that I’m addicted to diet coke?).

In my change was 2 dimes. When I got home, I looked at one of the dimes, because I wasn’t sure that it was a dime – it was slightly smaller and thinner than the other dime. I knew it wasn’t a penny, and thought I’d been ripped off, and was given a Canadian dime instead.

On closer inspection, however, I realized that it was a US coin; but a type I’d never seen before. I did a Google search, which lead me to eBay, where I found pictures of the same type of coin:

This coin (an 1865 3 cent piece) sold on eBay this past month for $3,250.

I’m off to the coin dealer after work today…
