36 things in 366 days – how did I do?
At the beginning of 2008, I set myself an ambitious goal – “36 things in 366 days”. The full list is here, and below is the list of those things that I actually did accomplish this year. As you can see, I failed miserably, in terms of actual number of items completed, especially in the Health/Fitness category, where I did nothing. This is especially bad in light of the fact that one of the items on the list was to get a mammogram, and given my mom’s own ongoing treatment for breast cancer, and making this a high priority for myself, I didn’t follow through.
In reviewing the list, I was happy with some of the things that I did accomplish, and I came pretty close to completing some of the other tasks.
The highlights for me were in the “family” and “finances” category; I met almost all my goals in the family category, and was happy with my progress in the finances category. In the blogging category, I continued to blog but didn’t meet the goal of at least 3 posts a week (I think that over the course of the year, I probably averaged 3 posts per week); nor did I post a finish each week, but I continued to post my finishes as I did them.
On the other hand, I accomplished a lot of things this year that I couldn’t possibly have anticipated when I first wrote this list; the changes that they have brought about are immeasurable!
So, here’s the list of what I *did* accomplish from my list:
Family
1. Send birthday cards to each of my immediate family members
2. Write at least one letter a month (not e-mail) to my parents
3. Keep in touch at least once a week via e-mail with my parents
5. Take DS for an “outing” (movie, museum, zoo etc.) at least once a month.
Health/Fitness - no goals met
Blogging
14. Comment on at least one “new to me” blog a day for a full month.
Stitching
20. Send 10 RAKs
Knitting – no goals met
Technical (career/education)
25. Create a website for myself
Finances
Without divulging too much personal information – let’s just say I achieved 3 out of the 5.
Home - no goals met
Fun/Travel
36. Take a weekend trip to Middlebury, Indiana
For 2009, I’m not going to be nearly as ambitious! I’m setting myself one stitching goal for the coming year – I want to have “Shores of Hawk Run Hollow” completed by the end of 2009. I’ll give myself extra points if I can have it finished by time I move to Dallas (at the end of June), but that’s probably pushing it.
The only non-stitching goal for 2009 will be to have that mammogram I have been promising myself that I would have for the past several years.
Happy New Year to each and every one of you. Thank you for your visits, your comments, your e-mails, and your friendship. I really appreciate it!

January 1, 2009
YOu are going to move to Dallas ?
That means if we have the money to visit our family, we could meet?
That would be great !!! The question is: are you ready for the very hot summer there?
Are you going to be self employed there too? Get ready to change your accent !!!
Happy new year Susan !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love your blog !!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
I’m a few months overdue for my mammogram. I’ll make an appointment if you will too! LOL Suz
Happy New Year Susan
I wanted to take this opportunity to say how much I enjoyed reading your blog in 2008. I hope 2009 is even better than you imagined it could be. Best Always, KD
You reached a lot of your goals, congratulations! I especially like the goal to post a comment on “new to me” blogs…which is what I am doing now, LOL! Happy New Year! Carol H. in VA
I wish you and your ds a very happy & healthy 2009 and one that’s full of fun and no disappointments. And finally congrats on achieving so many of your goals last year. Lots of love Patti xxx
Think of the cup as half full. You made excellent progress with quite a few of your goals, some of which took substantial effort. Don’t short change yourself. I am glad you’ve decided to make sure to have a mammogram in 2009. I think that’s really important.
I hope 2009 is the best year ever for you and yours!
Good luck with your goals for the new year, you did great, don’t be too hard on yourself, definately get the mammogram though.
Thanks for visiting my blog! I have enjoyed my journey through yours. I am also a big fan of LHN and CCN designs. I have yet to stitch anything by CCN, but I have several of their patterns. Perhaps this year. I hope you enjoy Texas. There are many wonderful stitchers down here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and some great stitchy shops too.
Considering all that has gone on in your life during 2008, I think you have done very well to achieve what you did. The mamogram has got to be number one for 2009, that also goes for any one who reads your blog. My mnumber one resolution is to get well, and make the most of life. love you
I think its hard to make a goal for blogging after all if you have nothing to say then there is no point in saying anything lol.
Oh Susan do get the mammogram done these things are so important not only for yourself but for your family too.
A little late (but I am still playing catch up) but Happy New Year to you and your family too.
I stumbled upon your blog when reading someone else’s. Nice to meet you! I was especially tickled by your goal of visiting Middlebury, Indiana. I live just 45 minutes’ drive east of Middlebury, and visit often. I like Shipshewana, too. I, too, am a Little House Needleworks addict – her stuff is the best!
